Valentine’s Day Flowers & Pie

I didn’t have high expectations for Valentine’s Day this year and I was okay with it.  Several weeks ago Jason and I had decided on no presents for the holiday that is nudged right in between both of our birthdays.  Apparently that was all a front because these were waiting for me when I got home from work on Friday.

The flowers were beautiful, but his words on the card were perfect.  He could have handed me that little plastic stick with a piece of paper sticking out the top with his words and it would have still been beautiful.

Roxy Jane sneaking a whiff of the roses.  I just think the picture is hilarious because all you can see is her beard and eyebrows.  Homegirl needs a haircut.

One thing you should know about me is that I show affection by cooking. Especially with homemade baked goods. I have my mother to thank for that.  I mostly stick to cakes and cupcakes because I love to decorate them.  My mom took a cake decorating class before I was born and she made us homemade cakes for nearly every holiday.  I distinctly remember eating a massive  bunny shaped coconut covered cake from every Easter of my childhood.  She used to let me play with the decorating tools and leftover icing and I just loved it!  BUT, Jason likes pies so that is what I make for him for special occasions. I originally intended on baking a Strawberry Rhubarb pie, his favorite, but it was too early in the season to find Rhubarb at any grocery stores so I settled for Raspberry Pie, also one of his favorites.  If you like Tart desserts, than this is the pie for you.  I have to eat mine with Vanilla Bean ice cream to cut down on the tartness.  It’s torture.

I hope everyone else had a wonderful Valentine’s Day with their friends and/or loved one(s)!

Carrie H - I love the picture with your dog. How stinkin’ cute! :)
